Baden Baden

Baden Baden is not only famous for its top class horse racing, but also for being one of Europe’s best spa destinations. It is also a quaint hangout for celebrities, and wellness addicts that head to this elegant town in the Black Forest region of Germany, an easy 80-minute train journey from Frankfurt, to relax.

As well as being an incredible spa town, it is also home to one of Germany’s most infamous racecourses, Baden Baden racecourse (Iffezheim Race Track). Each year it hosts a ton of great racedays including racing in May, August and October. With racing spread throughout the year it is the perfect place to organise a trip away with friends and an ideal destination for stag do's as the town has many bars and even a casino! Set just outside Baden Baden, the Iffezheim racecourse is a great experience and a beautiful setting. Upon arriving at the racecourse the first thing you will see after entering the gates are the incredible hat stands. They truely are amazing. All hats are handmade and include incredible detail. However with prices ranging from £300 to £600 they are maybe something you would rather just look at than actually purchase. Food prices range from €3 for sausage in a roll to €16 for some white asparagus. Drinks cost between €3 for a can of Coca-Cola to €7+ for a cocktail. *Top Tip* Everything is in German, so make sure you have a couple of German words handy so you can get around at the races! Although it is only a small town Baden Baden still offers plenty of things to do so you’re never bored when you’re not at the racing. Things to get upto in your free time include:

  • Shopping in the city centre

  • Take a walk through the paths in the Schwarzwald (The Black Forest)

  • There is a total of 3 castle ruins that can be visited surrounding Baden-Baden

  • There is a theatre and a Casino

  • Take a Bergbahn (cable-cars) to the top of Merkur Mountain, and perhaps go hang-gliding

  • Visit the collection of Faberge Eggs at the Faberge Museum

  • German dry white wine is very good!
