Cheltenham Festival: Our trip to jump racing's Olympics

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

What is the Cheltenham Festival?

The pinnacle of jump racing is one of the first weeks booked out in a racing fan's calendar. With 27 races across four days, top quality contests see a fierce clash of British and Irish runners (and a few from France thrown in). Let the roar of a tens of thousands-strong crowd envelop you, in this great ampitheatre of sport.

What's the itinerary?

Choose which days you'd like to attend, or indeed select multiple dates across the week to join us. We put you up in Stratford-upon-Avon, Bristol and, of course, Cheltenham itself, at a selection of top quality hotels, many of which include spa treatment and the option of adding a round of golf. On race days, we transfer you from your hotel to the course, and (with the exception of Cheltenham hotels, where we leave you to return at leisure) we bus you back after the final race.

What happened in 2023's running?

The Gold Cup was taken by Willie Mullins trained Galopin Des Champs, though Tuesday made the headlines. Nicky Henderson's Constitution Hill dominated the Champion Hurdle, while Henry de Bromhead's Honeysuckle left the racecourse in tears of joy (with victory in the Mares Hurdle), and Corach Rambler took the Ultima for Lucinda Russell and team. Elsewhere, Wednesday saw Delta Work follow up in the cross country, and Thursday witnessed another Rachael Blackmore success, with Envoi Allen in the Ryanair.

What about our exclusive Legends Lounge?

Our VIP bar returned to great success in 2023, welcoming a daily panel that included Matt Chapman, Mike Cattermole, Mick Fitzgerald and Paul Kealy. Guests enjoyed a free bar, the ability to bet without leaving, and screens showing the action on track (along with a complimentary race card). Lunchtime was easy, too, with a £15 food voucher to use at outlets across the course. Avoid the crowds... stay above the bustle.
